The midfielder has been out with a hamstring injury since facing Fulham more than two months ago, and is one of seven changes for the visit of FC Zurich.
Two-goal hero on Sunday Reiss Nelson is also handed a start, with Fabio Vieira and Sambi Lokonga also restored to the side. Eddie Nketiah is back in attack, alongside Gabriel Jesus who keeps his place.
Aaron Ramsdale is in goal, with Matt Turner still unavailable through injury. Oleksandr Zinchenko is on the bench after recovering from injury, as is Bukayo Saka after he was withdrawn in the first half on Sunday.
