Sunshine brings a smile to most people’s faces, but while you’re enjoying the warm weather spare a thought for our grounds team working on all our pitches at Sobha, Hale End and Emirates Stadium.
Like all living things, grass needs to stay hydrated, especially when growing. So it is no surprise that we have to give all our lush surfaces plenty to drink.
The pitches are designed to allow drainage to ensure use all season round, but this does mean we have to water them more to make sure each blade of grass gets all the hydration it needs.
The water recycling system at Sobha RTC captures this water and allows us to use it again, helping to reduce our reliance on mains water for irrigation. Our grounds and landscaping teams have also been using different additives to the pitch to help the plants absorb more of the water we use for irrigation.
We are also very aware that water is a finite resource, so we constantly make sure we fix any leaks and drips to reduce our water consumption as much as possible. A dripping tap can waste more than four litres of water every day so, because we have so many taps and showers across all of our sites, regular checks and maintenance are vital.
Talking of staying hydrated, don’t forget to use our water dispensers around Emirates Stadium, which are now located across Club and General Admission levels, not only giving you a refreshing drink, but also eliminating the need for a single-use plastic water bottle.
