The Hertsmere council steering group recently reached out to ask if we would host a tree planting event, as they wanted to plant seven trees of remembrance for the Holocaust, as well as genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur, and finally for peace looking forward.
Naturally we were delighted to be asked to participate in such a meaningful project, which also tied in with our own efforts to increase biodiversity at Sobha Realty Training Centre, so our managing director Richard Garlick welcomed Mayor of Hertsmere Richard Butler and pupils and staff from local schools Dame Alice Owens, Hertswood, Clore Shalom and Queens.
Mayor Butler gave a short speech before the planting, and a plaque has been placed to commemorate the event. In total we planted 12 trees.
The trees complement the work of our head gardener and landscaper Mick, who has been working on planting a 1,000m2 area of wildflower meadow in front of our beehives. We’ll be sure to share pictures of the flowers when they bloom.
We planted a mixture of fruit trees and will harvest them for use on site. In the meantime, the bees will love their flowers.
