Arsenal buzzing for honey

Sustainability beehives

Our bees have been established at Sohba Realty Training Centre for well over a year now after being introduced by head groundsperson Andy Purser, who is ably assisted by a cross-departmental team of budding apiarists.

Having come through the first winter and some traumatic times, the bees were full of energy as spring broke this year. Utilising the thousands of flowers up at SRTC and surrounding countryside, they wasted no time in creating some fantastic honey – and the results of the bees’ endeavours have been well received around the training centre by the chef and players alike.

Not only are bees very useful in creating delicious and healthy honey, they also maintain the essential balance of natural ecosystems by pollinating plants to ensure they thrive. Declining bee numbers leads to decreasing productivity from plants, so our stripy black and white friends play a vital role in keeping our food growing and our flowers blooming.
