Bees, trees and SBTs. This season has been another busy one for everyone here at Arsenal. We have added more hives to our colonies at Sohba, so we’re excited to see how much honey those busy bees can produce this summer. They will have even more nectar to use after our landscaping team planted more wild flowers, which we will share pictures of early next season.
We also planted more trees at Sobha as part of a scheme with the local council and schools, and of course we continue to plant at our Arsenal Forest in Kenya, which now has over 50,000 trees across 50 acres – the size of 27 Emirates Stadium pitches.
That covers the bees and trees, so now the SBTs. This season Arsenal were the first football club to announce the launch of fully verified emission reduction targets. The targets we have committed to are backed by science – Science Based Targets – to align with the Paris Agreement goals. This was a huge step for the club and one that truly shows our commitment to reducing our environmental impact.
These targets set Arsenal the challenge of reducing our direct emissions by 42% by 2030 and 90% by 2040. We know this won't be easy, but it is a challenge that we have accepted and are working towards. We will keep you up to date on our progress through these pages next season.
We have also trialled a discount code to help our supporters travel more sustainably. Those who went to the game at Liverpool were able to claim a 20% discount on train travel to try to make public transport more appealing. We will monitor the success of this and look at other potential options.
We have also educated both Arsenal staff and local students in sustainability. These courses were delivered to more than 600 students around the local area as we look to educate future generations in the importance of environmental action. We have also added new bins, EV chargers and water dispensers around our sites to reduce waste and aid recycling efforts.
It has been a good year, but there is still much to be done, so make sure you keep up to date on these pages.
