Biereth – The game had everything

Mika Biereth was upset at conceding two late goals in a thrilling 3-3 draw against Manchester City on Monday night, but remained upbeat on the team’s development and progress.

Kevin Betsy’s side looked set for a big win at Emirates Stadium, only for the league leaders to score twice in injury time to share the spoils.

Biereth netted twice at the Emirates on Monday, and here’s what he told us after the game.

on a lively night at the Emirates…

The game had a bit of everything didn’t it? We scored three, they scored three. City being top of the table and us being up there in the league as well, it was a good game to put on in front of the fans but we come away with a bitter taste in our mouth. The game was there for us, 3-1 up with a couple of minutes to go and it was a bit schoolboy from us. We really should have finished the game off and come away with the three points but it’s something to learn from.

on a revitalised second half…

It was the same when we played up at their training ground. They are a good team and have got great players, players who play in the Champions League, so they are bound to dominate the ball. We went in at half-time and regrouped, altered the press a little bit, and came out in the second half and really went for it. You could see with the performance and we scored three goals – some from the press and just playing well generally. You have to expect that from City - they’ve got good players all over the pitch and they’ll keep the ball at the end of the day.

on how the team’s developing…

Kevin just told us in the changing room, we started the season off with a 6-1 against West Ham and now we’re coming to the end of the season and we’re drawing 3-3 where we thought we should have beaten Man City. They won the league the last couple of years and they are up there with great quality players. We’ve got to look at ourselves and we have the same quality players to compete with them – it’s great learning and just shows we are making improvements and that’s all you can ask for. To make that next step into the first team it’s all about results so we’ve got to keep going.

on his late missed chance for a hat-trick to win the game…

It’s just one of those – I’ve got to score it! It didn’t fall for me today but I’m not going to get too down about it, but I’m sure I’ll have plenty of other chances to score more goals and I’m sure they’ll keep coming. I won’t be too down about it but it’s definitely one that you’ve got to score!
