Youth Cup: Liverpool v Arsenal - The Brief

THE STORY SO FAR

Unbeaten in seven, Kwame Ampadu’s squad have hit a great run of form heading into this weekend’s FA Youth Cup tie at Anfield.

We go into Saturday afternoon’s match off the back of a 2-2 draw against Fulham at London Colney, having beaten Wolves, Norwich, Tottenham, Stoke, Swansea and Aston Villa on the bounce before that.

THE OPPOSITION

With Steven Gerrard at the helm, the Reds are unbeaten in the league, leading the north division by one point ahead of Manchester City.

The Reds were 5-1 winners in the third round against Hartlepool, with Liam Millar, Glen McAuley and Curtis Jones all on target.

In their previous fixture, Gerrard’s side saw off Blackburn 6-1 away from home, thanks to goals from Rafael Camacho, Edvard Tagseth and Millar.

ONE TO WATCH

Having struck six goals since his return from injury, Xavier Amaechi’s purple patch has coincided with our impressive run of form.

The tricky attacking midfielder has been prolific in front of goal and at the heart of many of our attacks in recent games.

The 17-year-old also recently signed his first professional contract with the club, having been with us since the age of 12.

LAST TIME WE MET

The last time we faced the Reds we were 4-1 victors at London Colney, courtesy of a hat-trick from Charlie Gilmour and late strike from Tyreece John-Jules.

Gilmour struck all three of his goals from the penalty spot, going to the goalkeeper’s left each time, before John-Jules latched on to a ball from the Scotland youth international to round off the scoring.
