World Cup: Mead assists in quarter-final victory

Beth Mead

We had two stars fighting for a place in the World Cup semi-finals on Friday. Read on to find out how they fared.

Beth Mead claimed an assist as England beat Norway 3-0 to reach the semi-finals.

Jill Scott opened the scoring with the Lionesses’ fastest-ever goal in Women’s World Cup history, netting after just two minutes and six seconds.

Ellen White then joined Scott in the record books, doubling England’s lead to become her country’s all-time top scorer in the competition with six goals.

And then just three minutes after replacing Toni Duggan, Mead got in on the act. Our forward rolled the ball across to Lucy Bronze, who smashed a first-time strike into the roof of the net to make it three.

Nikita Parris missed a penalty with just seven minutes remaining, but the damage had already been done as England booked their place in a second successive Women’s World Cup semi-final. Leah Williamson was an unused substitute.
