Pre-Match Report

Women: Arsenal v Reading - The Brief

After securing our place in the SSE Women’s FA Cup final, we’re back in Women’s Super League action against Reading on Wednesday evening.

THE OPPOSITION

Sat third in the table with just five games to play, this season Reading have undoubtedly playing their best football since they were promoted to the top tier in 2015.

Unbeaten in their last five matches, the Royals have flourished against the top sides during an impressive campaign, drawing 2-2 at Chelsea before producing a shock 2-0 win over the previously unbeaten Manchester City.

While Brooke Chaplen has stolen the headlines by topping their scoring charts, former Gunner Fara Williams has added some much-needed experience to their midfield, and is only one goal behind her team-mate with eight goals in 20 appearances this season.

ONE TO WATCH

Jordan Nobbs is just one goal away from her 50th for the club.

The England international has become a key player for us ever since her arrival in north London eight years ago, and has also developed into one of this country’s premier goalscoring midfielders.

Armed with incredible vision and a rocket shot to match, Reading will need to be at their best to keep Nobbs from becoming our 13th player since 1999 to bring up her half-century in red and white.

LAST TIME WE MET

The last time we faced Reading was a goalless stalemate in the Women’s Super League back in January, but a week before that we actually beat them 3-2 at Adams Park in the Continental Cup semi-final.

Despite being pegged back after Chaplen and Lauren Bruton had cancelled out Beth Mead’s early opener, we struck twice in the final two minutes to book our place in our sixth final.

First Vivianne Miedema found the bottom corner from inside the box, before Nobbs pounced on Reading’s failure to clear a deep cross to take us to the competition decider with the deftest of touches.
