David Luiz has hailed the progress the team is making after our draw with Manchester United on Saturday evening.
Despite going close through Alex Lacazette and Emile Smith Rowe, we had to settle for a draw - but our Brazilian centre back feels we once again proved our character.
This is what he told the media after the match:
on the result…
It was a great game. Both teams were trying to win and both teams had opportunities. It was a proper match. It’s frustrating because we love to win. I think we tried our best and that’s it. We have to try to improve every single day, I think we have to be humble every day to admit what you have to do to improve. I think the boss is doing a good job, the young boys are progressing a lot, they are fantastic. I think we’re starting to create a real team, a real atmosphere. I think that’s why we keep going but football is like this, if you don’t continue the focus and the concentration, if you don’t work hard every single day, then things can change. I am very very happy because we’ve turned around a very difficult moment in our season for a positive moment and we have to keep trying and keep going.
on celebrating the deflected free-kick
I think it was one of the best players in the league taking the free-kicks, shooting. Bruno is amazing, he can decide [the game] in these kind of moments. A free-kick in this kind of position is like a penalty. You have to realise that when you play against a fantastic player, you have to try your best. He even spoke to me because he took the free-kick quickly, straight after the whistle to try and take everyone by surprise but I was happy because I was focused and I saved the goal.
on what we can achieve as a side this season…
As I say, you have to be humble because we are far from the first position. We have to take it game by game and then at the end of the season we’ll see how far we can go. The ambition has to be there. The ambition is to be there, to be fighting for the first position, the ambition has to be there. I never start something in my life without ambition. Until the moment it’s mathematically impossible you have to try. You have to try your best. I try to win game by game by game so this is what we have to put in our minds every single day.
