Vivianne Miedema is desperate for success in the Women’s Super League and Continental Tyres Cup, following our SSE Women’s FA Cup exit.
The Netherlands international has scored 25 goals over the course of the season so far, but she was starved of service in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Chelsea.
We spoke to Miedema after the final whistle - and this is what she said:
on her thoughts on the final whistle…
Nothing really. I don’t really know what to think. Obviously for us the focus is on the league and I think you could see that today, but I think we’ve disappointed ourselves and everyone in the stadium today. We’ll make sure to put it right.
on what was missing from our performance…
I think conceding quite early hurt us and we were also quite unlucky with not getting an equaliser after that. It got into our heads and after that we weren’t good enough.
on three at the back working last time out…
I think it was a little disjointed. We’ve been training like this all week and it’s been going really well, but today we weren’t good enough at the back, or anywhere on the pitch really. You could see that the goals were conceded thanks to personal mistakes and that’s how football is, but we need to focus on the league and Conti Cup now.
on whether this could be a blessing in disguise…
For me definitely! The focus is on the league and we don’t have a big squad. Now we only have to play seven more league games and the Conti Cup final, so we know what to focus on. We know what we’re capable of doing so we need to pick ourselves up because it wasn’t good enough today.
