Joe Montemurro praised his side’s clinical nature in front of goal on Sunday, as we cruised to a 2-0 victory over Birmingham City at Meadow Park.
The win saw us maintain our place at the top of the Women’s Super League table - and extend our winning streak at home to nine consecutive league fixtures.
“It’s always a little tricky coming back after a break and getting the match rhythm back. I remember when we came back from the winter break and played West Ham away last season and we were 2-1 down,” said our head coach.
“We were clinical today when we needed to be and we probably should have been more clinical, but I was pleased with the professional control of the game.
“We have a full week of training this week which is great. We can get a nice full week in and a big game against Brighton next week, then we have the Reading mid-week game before Chelsea,” continued Montemurro.
“Everyone is in good rhythm and good shape and feeling good. We’re also in a position where we can rest a couple of position which is good. So we’re just preparing for the madness up ahead.
“It’s the classic case of you have two or three chances to kill the game off and finish the game off, but you don’t. You get a little bit frustrated, you want to finish the game off and we tried to do that in a little bit o a silly manner going forward to early and too quickly.
“The chances were there and it was just a matter of time. All credit to Birmingham they continued to play and we managed it and controlled it. A good clean sheet and three points.”
