‘We could have fallen to pieces… but didn’t’

Although our under-23s were beaten by  Tottenham on Monday afternoon, Charlie Gilmour was pleased with our reaction after we went two goals down early in the first half.

The midfielder scored an equaliser from the penalty spot, before Marcus Edwards netted the winner for Spurs following the break.

“We started sloppily, gave away two goals early doors in the first 10, so we didn’t start to our expectations, but we reacted well,” Gilmour told Arsenal Player.

“We could have just fallen to pieces after the two goals, we did well, worked together as a team to get it to 2-2 at half-time and then second half we started poorly again in the first 15 and then we started controlling it towards the end. We were unfortunate not to get an equaliser if not win the game.

“It showed that we have character, for sure most teams would just fall apart at 2-0, but it shows that we have good character and good team spirit to get back in the game.

“I picked up a good goal, was unfortunate not to pick up another one, but that’s life.

“It’s going well, we could do better, obviously you can always improve, but I think overall it’s not a bad start to the season. We just need to carry on and show what we’re made of throughout the whole season.”
