Walking football victory at West Ham

Arsenal in the Community's walking football side were victorious over West Ham United in a recent fixture to coincide with the first team's trip to London Stadium.

Both the male and female sides, which are made up of participants over 50, were invited to play their West Ham counterparts, who also provided 20 away tickets for the Premier League game later that day.

The Arsenal men’s side recorded a 2-0 victory whilst the ladies ran out 5-1 victors. Both sides then received medals and a trophy during the half-time pitchside presentation.

"We all enjoyed a great day and would like to thank West Ham for inviting us," explained Arsenal in the Community walking football participant, David Deguara.

"My love of football has not diminished as I have got older, but my capacity to play at pace had through a lack of regular exercise, poor diet and the onset of type two diabetes.

"I desperately needed a lifestyle change and focus, and walking football provided me with that. I joined four months ago and haven't looked back! Not only has my fitness improved, but so has my health.

"As well as the health and fitness benefits, we also have a cracking good time and I now have a great bunch of new-found mates."

Arsenal in the Community host regular walking football sessions at the Arsenal Hub from 8:45am-10:15am every Sunday morning for men and women over 50.
