You’ve heard his voice for years, and now you can see the man behind the mic by meeting our matchday announcer Peter Mujuzi!
A new feature on our Live From N5 matchday show is Unseen Arsenal, taking you behind the scenes at Emirates Stadium to show you what goes on to make matchdays perfect.
And our first guest was Peter, who is in charge of the announcements before, during and after the matches, as well as choosing the music to set the mood, and he chatted to Frimmy about his role at the club.
Speaking about how he landed the gig, Peter said: “I was basically the assistant to the main announcer, Paul, who was a legend here for 30 years and I’d picked his brain for the last 10 years or so. During the pandemic we were social distancing so only one of us could be in the booth at a time, and so it was just me covering the behind-closed-doors games, which was crazy awkward.
“Before you knew it, we were letting crowds in slowly. I think it was the Chelsea Mind Series game, and they asked me if I fancied doing it in front of 60,000. I was like absolutely not! But at the same time, what an opportunity. Who gets to say they can speak to 60,000 at a stadium like this and at a club of this size?
“I didn’t even know it was a job. The way I got into it was because I was working in radio as well in the sound engineering side of things, and I DJ as well! Knowing what kind of music to play at a stadium and different sports events, that’s kind of how it pieced together.”
