Our young Gunners are set to shift their focus to Premier League Cup action as they travel to Merseyside for their first group stage fixture against Liverpool on Wednesday, August 28. The match kicks off at 12pm (UK time) at the AXA Training Centre.
We head into this fixture brimming with confidence, having secured victories in our opening two league matches. After edging past West Ham United 3-2 and clinching a 1-0 win over Chelsea, our form is strong as we enter cup competition.
Opposition Watch
Liverpool’s start to the season has been the polar opposite of ours. The Reds have suffered back-to-back defeats, losing 5-1 to Derby County and 3-2 to Middlesbrough. However, they'll be eager to turn their fortunes around and secure a much-needed win on home turf.
Competition Format
In the Premier League Cup, our U18s will compete in three group stage matches against Liverpool, Birmingham City, and Crystal Palace. The format sees seven groups of four teams each, with clubs playing one another once, either home or away.
The group winners and the best runner-up - determined by total points, goal difference, and head-to-head records - will advance to the quarter-finals. That's the stage we reached last season, where we were narrowly defeated by Manchester United.
