U18s preview: Aston Villa v Arsenal

Villa U18s preview

Our under-18s wrap up their Premier League South campaign against Aston Villa on Sunday, May 11. Kick-off at Bodymoor Heath Training Ground is scheduled for 1pm (UK time).

Adam Birchall’s side have won 12 of their 23 league matches this season and will finish third in the league table if they avoid defeat on Sunday.

We were still in the title race right up until last weekend, but a 4-3 defeat to Fulham ended our hopes of winning the division.

The Opposition

Aston Villa have already been confirmed as the U18 Premier League South champions, holding a two-point lead over Southampton, who have already played their final game.

Villa beat Leicester 1-0 on Thursday to extend their winning run to five games in all competitions, securing the league title with a game to spare. This marked the completion of a league and cup double for Sunday’s opponents, who beat Manchester City 3-1 in the FA Youth Cup final on Monday.

After their game with us this weekend, Aston Villa will prepare for the U18 Premier League final against U18 Premier League North winners Manchester City.

Cole Brannigan has been a big part of the Villains’ success this season, scoring 15 goals, including one in the FA Youth Cup final.
