U-23s: Liverpool v Arsenal - The Brief

THE STORY SO FAR

We return to Premier League 2 action on Sunday afternoon for our first game of 2018, as we face Liverpool at Prenton Park.

We head into the match off the back of a dramatic 3-3 draw with Derby County at Meadow Park, where Jordi Osei-Tutu and Julio Pleguezuelo scored late on to see us share the points with the Rams.

Currently third in the table, Steve Gatting’s side have a game in hand over second-placed Leicester City and will be looking to reduce the five-point gap.

THE OPPOSITION

The hosts sit top of the PL2 table after 13 games, leading Leicester by two points.

Having started the season with six straight wins, the Reds fell to a surprise defeat at Derby and have also dropped points against Leicester and Swansea City.

Their top scorer so far this season is Harry Wilson, who has struck nine goals in 10 appearances.

ONE TO WATCH

With two goals in his last two games, Jordi Osei-Tutu has hit a purple patch and will be keen to continue that form against Liverpool.

The defender also recently extended his contract with the club and has quickly become one of the first names on the teamsheet for Gatting.

LAST TIME WE MET

The Reds were 2-1 winners at Meadow Park thanks to a late strike from Sam Hart.

We took the lead through Reiss Nelson shortly after the break, only for a goal from Rhian Brewster 20 minutes from time to peg us back.

Hart then blasted in an unstoppable free-kick in the 90th minute to seal the win for the visitors.
