U-23s: Arsenal v Derby County - The Brief

THE STORY SO FAR

Following our 1-0 win at Manchester City  we’ve risen to third in the Premier League 2 table and will be hoping to replicate our previous performance against the Rams, who we picked up three points against earlier in the season.

Unbeaten in three games, Steve Gatting will likely have a strong squad to select from this Friday, as we look to remain in the chase behind league leaders Liverpool.

THE OPPOSITION

Sat in sixth place on 17 points, Derby have a game in hand over us and are yet to draw, having picked up five wins and six losses so far.

The visitors come into our match off the back of a 2-0 loss at home against Leicester City, so will be keen to return to winning ways on the road.

Darren Wassall’s side picked up an impressive 2-0 win against Liverpool earlier in the campaign, to end the Reds’ unbeaten start to the season.

ONE TO WATCH

Having recently extended his contract with the us, and having hit his first goal for our under-23s, Jordi Osei-Tutu is a player that fans may want to keep an eye on.

The defender has been one of the first names on the teamsheet this season for Gatting and has earned opportunities to train and travel with the first-team squad in the Europa League and Carabao Cup.

LAST TIME WE MET

We came back from two goals down to beat the Rams at St. George’s Park, with Reiss Nelson striking twice to bring us level and Eddie Nketiah hitting the winner late on.

The hosts took the lead through Kellan Gordon in the first half, before Emil Jakobsen doubled their lead following the break. On the hour mark Nelson struck twice in four minutes, first to reduce the deficit and then to bring us level, while ten minutes from time Nketiah buried the winner.
