The tactics behind Nobbs’ stunning goal

Jordan Nobbs

Jordan Nobbs delivered a masterclass in midfield on Sunday, as we ran out comfortable 2-0 winners over Birmingham City at Meadow Park.

Not only did the England international work tirelessly throughout, but she also capped off her standout display with an outrageous dinked finish from just inside the area.

“We wanted Viv to come inside and for me to run in behind, and that’s a big part of my game,” said our No 8. “I get a lot of joy out of doing that and I’ve always liked to get higher up the pitch.

“It was a great ball from Leah Williamson and I’m glad to get a goal at the start of the year, but I think we have an incredible front line up top, who can all play in different positions and make different movements. That’s why I think we’re so threatening up top.

“We knew that making the runs in behind and drawing them out would cause them trouble, and it worked quite a lot actually. I think we could have scored a few more goals off that, but it’s just about continuing to play the Arsenal way and and continuing to have the ball.

“I think in the second half we lost our way a little bit. We know that’s something we need to develop, but we’ve come out with three points today and that’s the main outcome. There were probably parts of the game today where we wanted to perform better, but I think coming into this game after Christmas and New Year, it’s good to not concede and score goals again.”
