Smith Rowe selected for U21 Euros training camp

Emile Smith Rowe in action for England under-21s

Emile Smith Rowe will link up with England under-21 side for a UEFA U21 European Championships training camp next month.

The Young Lions will assemble between June 7-10 at St. George’s Park as Lee Carsley’s side prepare for the tournament in Romania and Georgia later that month.

Smith Rowe played five times during the qualifying campaign, scoring against Andorra and the Czech Republic as he split his time between the under-21s and Gareth Southgate’s full side. He also represented his nation twice at the 2021 U21 Euros when they failed to reach the knockout stages.

This time around, England have been drawn in a group alongside the Czech Republic, Germany and Israel and will play those opponents in Georgia over the course of six days.

They will be looking to win the tournament for the third time in their history, but the first since 1984, and will have to do so without Folorin Balogun, who was their leading goalscorer during qualifying with six goals but has opted to represent the USA at full international level.

Carsley will name his squad for the finals on Wednesday, June 14.

England U21 training camp squad:

Goalkeepers: Josh Griffiths (West Bromwich Albion), Carl Rushworth (Brighton and Hove Albion), James Trafford (Manchester City), Anthony Patterson (Sunderland)
