Smith Rowe selected for U-17 World Cup

Emile Smith Rowe

Emile Smith Rowe has been included in the 21-man England squad for next month’s FIFA Under-17 World Cup, which will be held in India.

The 17-year-old, who is a regular with our under-18s, has scored four goals in five games for Kwame Ampadu’s side so far this season.

Smith Rowe featured in Steve Cooper’s squad for the European Under-17 Championship, where the Young Lions reached the final. The winger played three games and scored against the Netherlands in a 3-0 win.

England will face Mexico, Chile and Iraq in the first round on the competition, based in Kolkata.

U-23s: Everton 4-2 Arsenal - Report

Steve Gatting’s side fell to a disappointing defeat at Everton on Monday, with two late goals from the Toffees cancelling out Marcus McGuane’s brace.

We took the lead early on through McGuane, who picked up Aaron Eyoma’s cross on the edge of the area and rifled a shot past Joe Hilton.

Emile Smith Rowe soon went close to doubling our lead, when the forward sent a shot narrowly wide.

Shortly following the interval, Anton Donkor brought the hosts level when he raced through on goal and beat Ryan Huddart with a low shot.

With just 17 minutes left, the Toffees took the lead through an own-goal from Jospeh Olowu, who inadvertently headed a corner past Ryan Huddart.

A few moments later, McGuane equalised from the spot after Donkor had brought down Charlie Gilmour just inside the area.

But Gatting’s side fell behind once more when Antony Evans beat Huddart just nine minutes from full-time.

A few minutes later, in search of an equaliser yet again, Gilmour was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Everton then sealed the win when David Henen capitalised on a slip from Zech Medley and added a fourth goal in the final minute.

The defeat means that we slip to third place in the Premier League 2 table, just a point behind Everton, six behind leaders Liverpool and two ahead of fourth-place Leicester City and fifth-place West Ham.

Gatting’s side welcome Sunderland to Meadow Park in their next fixture on October 16. The Black Cats are 10th in the table, having not won since the opening day of the season against Tottenham. They were beaten 2-1 by West Ham in their previous fixture.

U-18s: Arsenal 4-0 Reading - Report

Our under-18s returned to winning ways on Saturday as they beat Reading 4-0 at London Colney.

Vontae Daley-Campbell opened the scoring just past the 20-minute mark when he met Dominic Thompson’s cross to volley home.

We added to our lead through Folarin Balogun after the interval when the striker raced on to Tyreece John-Jules' pass on the edge of the penalty area and lashed the ball past Gabriel Rosario.

John-Jules soon turned goalscorer, adding a third shortly after when he was played in on goal by Bukayo Saka and coolly fired the ball in.

To rub salt into Reading’s wounds, Balogun bagged his second of the game 14 minutes from time, when John-Jules’s shot ricocheted off him and looped over Rosario and into the net.

Victory means that we have risen to fifth in the table and now lie just six points off league leaders Chelsea, who remain undefeated.

Up next is an away trip to fourth-placed Brighton and Hove Albion, who were beaten 3-0 by Fulham in their previous fixture.
