When Emile Smith Rowe picked out Bukayo Saka to score our second goal against Newcastle, it set a new Premier League record.
They became the first English duo in history to combine for three top-flight goals before either had turned 21 - and it’s a relationship that has been years in the making.
“We’re so close off the pitch as well and I think that’s just showing on the pitch really,” Smith Rowe said. “We’ve known each other for such a long time, so as soon as we step on to the pitch, we know each other so well. I’m happy to assist him today.
“I feel like [the first time we played together was] an FA Youth Cup game or under-18s game maybe against Liverpool. I feel like that was the first time we properly together and I think since then we’ve really clicked and tonight showed that.
“Yeah, of course [the Hale End connection helps]! I think it makes it that little bit more special knowing we’ve come up together through the academy.”
