Smith Rowe and Nwaneri on target for England

Emile Smith Rowe in action for England under-21s

Emile Smith Rowe got on the scoresheet as England under-21s comfortably beat France 4-0 in a friendly in Leicester on Saturday.

The Hale End produce snuck in at the far post to score a diving header and open the scoring on 50 minutes, before being replaced 16 minutes later.

That was Emile’s third goal in eight caps for the under-21s, and he’ll get a chance to add to those tallies when they Croatia at Fulham on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, having netted twice in England under-17s’ win against Denmark three days earlier, Ethan Nwaneri repeated the trick on Saturday by notching another brace in the Young Lions’ 2-0 success over Northern Ireland.

Nwaneri played 89 minutes of the contest in Noordwijk in the Netherlands, in what was his team’s second success of their Under-17 European Championships qualifying campaign round-robin, meaning they now need only a draw against the hosts on Tuesday to reach the finals in Hungary this summer.

Also making his second appearance alongside Ethan during this international break was Myles Lewis-Skelly, who featured for the final 26 minutes.

However there wasn’t such good news for Reuell Walters and Amario Cozier-Duberry as England's under-19s fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat to Iceland in Rotherham, leaving their qualifying hopes in the balance.

Having beaten Hungary in their opening Under-19 European Championships qualifier, Amario started the game at New York Stadium and played 78 minutes, while Reuell was an early introduction from the bench and amassed 57 minutes on the field, but an Orri Oskarsson's second-half penalty ultimately settled the contest.

Only the group winners will qualify for this summer’s finals in Malta, meaning the duo now need to beat Turkey on Tuesday and hope Iceland do not win their match with Hungary.

Meanwhile, Lino Sousa got another hour of international action under his belt, however he couldn’t prevent England under-18s falling to a 3-0 loss against Belgium in Croatia.

Away from England action, Fabio Vieira played the second half of Portugal under-21s’ 2-0 friendly win against Romania in Bucharest. He will round off his international break on home turf against Norway on Monday.
