Sister club focus: Cambridge City Ladies

We work closely with 18 grassroots football clubs as part of our FA Women’s Super League Sister Club programme.

Our programme is one of the biggest in the country and the aim of our support is to get more girls playing football. Over the course of the season we will be focusing on a number of the clubs and sharing information on how girls can start playing football.

The latest club that we will be focusing on is Cambridge City Ladies and Girls FC…

“We are a successful, supportive and encouraging club aspiring to develop and progress girls from under-9s through to the first team. We have several players in our first team who began their footballing journey with us at just six years old, and they still enjoying playing on Sundays in the Eastern Region Women’s Premier League.

“Being an Arsenal Sister Club is an amazing opportunity for our club to extend its coaching skills and to enable our players to experience first-hand the wonderful facilities Arsenal Women have to offer.

“Arsenal have previously provided the pathway for our elite players and five of our Cambridge City players have made the move to Arsenal girls, three of which have gone on to play for England at youth level.

“With such a healthy youth section, the future of Cambridge City Ladies teams looks very bright - and working with Arsenal Women as a sister club makes the future seem even brighter.

“Last season we were very proud and honoured to have won the FA Charter Standard Community Club of the Year 2017, along with the Cambridgeshire FA Mick North Club of the Year 2016/17 - the first time an all-female club has won this much-coveted award.

“New players are always welcome, especially those in younger age groups who are just starting to take an interest in football. We are delighted to have been chosen to run an SSE Wildcats Centre in 2018 which we hope will support this.”
