Sister club focus: Bedford Ladies

We work closely with 18 grassroots football clubs as part of our FA Women’s Super League Sister Club programme.

Our programme is one of the biggest in the country and the aim of our support is to get more girls playing football. Over the course of the season we will be focusing on a number of the clubs and sharing information on how girls can start playing football.

The latest club that we will be focusing on is Bedford Ladies…

“We have teams at under-9, under-10, under-11, under-13, under-14 and under-16 as well as a first team playing in the Regional Premier Division and a development team playing in the County League.

“We also have two Wildcat Centres, one at Allen Park on Saturday mornings and the other at Scott Primary after school on Thursdays. We have several links with schools and deliver after-school clubs for girls.

“We were formed in 1996 and were involved in the first girls’ football match in Bedfordshire. We separated from the boys’ club in 2000 as their needs were very different to ours. We achieved our own Charter Standard and became a Charter Standard Development Club in 2006. We grew to become one of the most successful girls’ clubs in the county.

“While we want to develop girls to play at the highest level within the club, our core value is actually to provide a safe, friendly atmosphere for girls to have fun, learn new skills and play football. We have always all trained together and group train where we can, so there is a real family feel to the club.

“We are always keen to recruit talented players at all ages throughout the year. New players of any age are encouraged to attend a training session as a taster. We are also keen to support students at the university, with some real work experience in coaching, physiotherapy and marketing.”

Winter training times (September to April):

Mondays: Bedford Girls’ School, Cardington Road, Bedford, MK42 0BT

Thursdays: Bedford Academy, Mile Road, Bedford, MK42 9TR

Summer training times (April to September):

Allen Park, Ford End Road, Queens Park, Bedford, MK40 4LY

*We train throughout the year, with a two to four week break in the summer, depending on age group.
