Nobbs - How the boss has instilled belief

Jordan Nobbs

Wednesday’s FA WSL Continental Cup final win was a real team effort, but Jordan Nobbs was still keen to praise Joe Montemurro’s hard work behind the scenes after the game.

The clean sheet against Manchester City at Adams Park was our seventh in a row, and resulted in our manager’s first piece of silverware since he arrived at the end of 2017.

It means we have still only lost once since Montemurro took over, and Nobbs paid tribute to the manager after the game.

“We just got back to organisation, passing the ball and being confident on the ball," she said. "We were tremendous in the first half and we hung on when Manchester City threw everything at us after the break. I’m just so proud of the girls today.

“The last few weeks, we’ve just been on an uphill climb which has just been phenomenal since Joe came in and I’m so proud of the girls today. It’s a great feeling to bring silverware back to the club.

“The celebrations show just how much it means to get that feeling again. I’ve been lucky enough to win this trophy a few times but every time it gets better. With the way the women’s game’s going, to win it now is a great feeling to know we beat a top team today.”

Little - We’re building a great team again

Kim Little

Kim Little has played in some legendary Arsenal teams down the years - and she believes our current squad has all the necessary ingredients to become another great side.

The Scotland international captained us to victory in Wednesday’s FA WSL Continental Cup final, making her 150th appearance for the club in the process, and believes our success at Adams Park could lead to more glory in the near future.

“We had a game plan coming into it and we executed it perfectly in the first half,” she said. “In the second half, we tired a little bit because some of our players haven’t played too many games in recent weeks.

“I’m very proud of us because we’ve come a long way in the past four or five months. We put in the performance and we deserved to win.

“For me, it’s nice to just stand back and just think about the past nine or 10 months because for me, I’ve not played too much football. It’s just a nice feeling to be back playing in games like this and representing Arsenal again.

“It’s difficult for me to compare this team to previous sides because we had so many players back then with a great team. Our aim now is to get the club back to where it was about five or six years ago. We hope today can be the start of building a great team again.”
