Scott and Carter win at Football Black List awards

The 2017 Football Black Lists Award ceremony, attended by over 350 people, proved to be a memorable night for us last week as we picked up a variety of awards recognising the invaluable contributions our people have made to the sport.

Founded by Rodney Hinds and Leon Mann, The Football Blacklists serves as a platform to discuss the under-representation of people from African and Caribbean backgrounds and how to address these issues.

Arsenal striker Danielle Carter and Ryan Garry our under 13s Academy coach both won the “Ugo Ehiogu - Ones to Watch” category, an award paying tribute to former England and Aston Villa defender Ugo Ehiogu who had previously won this category and tragically passed away a few weeks later.

Other winners included Arsenal defender Alex Scott winning the “Players – Off the Pitch award” who received an MBE this year for her outstanding contribution to women’s football, ex Arsenal player Rachel Yankey winning the “Keith Alexander Award” for her commitment to the game and community and Ian Wright winning the “Media” award for his punditry work on BBC, ITV and BT Sports.

Former Gunner Rachel Yankey was also a winner at the awards ceremony

Beverley Nicholas, PA to Head of Community Alan Sefton, in receiving the Community and Grassroots award said “We have a great team at Arsenal in the Community. I feel honoured, but embarrassed, to have been singled out for this Award”.

In recognising Bev’s long-standing service Sefton pointed out “Beverley has been at the heart of the Club’s community work for the past 26 years.”

Beverley Nicholas earned the Community and Grassroots award

Congratulations to all involved!
