Bukayo Saka has been nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award for 2023/24, as he looks to retain his trophy.
Our winger is one of six players in contention to win the prize, which is voted for by their peers, and saw the England international come out on top of the pile last term to claim the prestigious prize.
He is once again in the running after recording his highest-ever goalscoring tally, topping our scoring charts with 20 in all competitions, making him the first player to hit that total since Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2019/20, and the first Englishman since Theo Walcott seven years previously. At 22 years and 242 days, he also became the youngest player to do so since Martin Hayes in 1986/87.
Bukayo also laid on 14 assists to his teammates across a campaign that also saw him reach 50 goals and 50 assists for us, and captain the side for the first time.
His rivals for the accolade are England teammate Cole Palmer, who scored 22 Premier League goals and 11 assists for Chelsea to record more goal involvements than any other player in the division, as well as Manchester United’s Kobbie Mainoo whose breakthrough season ended with him scoring the winner in the FA Cup final.
Mainoo’s teammate Alejandro Garnacho and Brighton and Hove Albion’s Joao Pedro are shortlisted after decent returns in front of goal in all competitions, while Michael Olise is also in the running after scoring 10 goals and producing six assists in just 19 appearances for the Eagles before his departure to Bayern Munich.
The winner will be announced at the PFA Awards in Manchester on Tuesday, August 20.
