Russo named FWA Footballer of the Year

Alessia Russo celebrates scoring against Real Madrid

Alessia Russo has been named the Football Writers' Association Women’s Footballer of the Year for 2024/25.

The accolade is voted for by a group of around 400 journalists, celebrating the best players in English football over the past season.

Our number 23, who joined in the summer of 2023, has enjoyed a prolific season in both domestic and European competitions, racking up 20 goals and 4 assists.

Summer signing Mariona Caldentey also finished in third place, one spot behind last year’s winner Khadija Shaw from Manchester City. Chelsea’s Millie Bright rounded out the top four.

Russo is the second Arsenal player to have won the award since its inception in 2018. Vivianne Miedema previously scooped the trophy for her performances in the 2019/20 season.
