After a breathless 5-0 win over Brighton at Emirates Stadium, Renee Slegers commended our squad for their time and effort heading into the game.
Our interim coach spoke after the full-time whistle on our ruthlessness in both boxes, early substitutions and the incredible evening support in N5.
Here is everything she had to say:
on converting our chances after a frustrating draw last weekend...
Yeah, it looks very easy now! We talk about it, then it happens, but there's quite some work behind the scenes. Also, in the last two training sessions, we've been investing a lot of time in this part of our game. So I'm really happy for the girls. The investment they put in and that they get the effect today in the game.
on our five separate goalscorers...
Yeah, which is very nice, and it says something about where we're going as a team. I think five different goalscorers for us as well, both starters and finishers in the game. So we're really doing it together. Everyone is contributing. So yeah, very positive.
on the early substitutions...
Well, we always wanted to bring on players because we have such a great squad, so that was always part of the plan. And now it was about decisions, who do we take off for those players? And this is where the tight schedule comes in as well. So I think the decisions that we made today were good, so hopefully, everyone got the right amount of minutes, and everyone is fresh for Juventus on Tuesday.
on the strength in depth and Manu Zinsberger...
We are very lucky. It's lovely to see how everyone trains. And I'm really happy for Manu. She kept a clean sheet today and I also think she did well in our attack, in our builds, making good decisions. So she had a really good performance today.
on the celebrations after Lina Hurtig's goal...
Yeah, it's two things. Lina has been away for a while, and obviously she's been back for a couple of weeks, but she scores her first goal back. But also for the team, we score from a corner, and we know set pieces are a big part of our game and football in general. And yeah, we needed that goal as well. So it was double happiness.
on tonight's support at Emirates Stadium...
Yeah, it was good. You can feel them, you can hear them, you can see them. And I think even when the game was a little bit slow at times, because Brighton were stepping on the wall and waiting us to press, and we did the same at times. I think the whole stadium stayed engaged and kept singing. So yeah, it means a lot to us.
