Renée Slegers is focused on controlling the controllables as we head into a busy period of seven games in March.
As well as quarter-finals in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup and UEFA Women’s Champions League to look forward, there are also four big games in the Barclays Women’s Super League, starting with West Ham United on Sunday.
Looking ahead to this weekend’s test at Mangata Pay UK Stadium, February’s Manager of the Month believes the league title can still be within reach.
“We need to believe that, and I do,” she said. “All we can do is: we're in the position we're in at the moment. We have a very exciting block, full of opportunities ahead of us, and we're going to try and take those opportunities, and that's within our control.
“Everything that the others do, we can't control. But we're going to try what we can do in these four games.”
West Ham are eighth in the WSL with 14 points from 14 games this season, and they were Renee’s first opponent as interim head coach for our 2-0 win there back in October.
Rehanne Skinner’s side went into the international break with a 3-1 win at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, after being knocked out of the Subway Women’s League Cup by Chelsea.
"Well I think they’re going to make it very hard for us, which they did in the away game as well," our head coach said, discussing West Ham's threat. "I think they have their identity as a team, they’re looking to find their identity and they’re coming closer and closer.
"What they will do is close down spaces and try to threaten us in different ways and I think it’s going to be a hard game, so we have to be on top."
