Quinn – I’m so proud to hit 50 appearances

Quinn

Louise Quinn made her 50th appearance for the club during our 2-1 win over Manchester United in the semi-finals of the Continental League Cup.

The Republic of Ireland international was reliable as ever at the heart of our defence, and if it wasn’t for a brilliant goalline clearance from Katie Zelem, she would have found herself on the scoresheet too.

We spoke to Quinn after the final whistle - and this is what she said:

on the overall performance…

I thought we definitely controlled it in patches, but then we also kind of let it go in a few moments too. We had general control over the first half, but it was only from our own mistakes where they were able to get through. It was unfortunate that they scored, especially as we should have scored a few more, but they were always going to be a tough team. They really went at us for 90 minutes and they made it a really tough semi-final. Overall, though, I think we deserved it and now we just need to pick it up for the final.

on wasted chances…

I think we could and should have finished them off earlier, and their goal got them right back into the game with 10 minutes to go and we put ourselves under pressure. We’ve just got to finish teams off earlier.

on making her 50th appearance for the club…

I didn’t know until tonight! That’s something I’m really, really proud of and I’m thankful to get this far and continue playing. I hope there’s many more games to come.

on Miedema stepping up again…

She scores under pressure and she always scores when we need her to. She’s a great finisher. We have those players all over the pitch. Kim really controls the game and knows how to settle a game down. We have those players who can make the difference. We have a really talented squad so we just need to keep pushing forward. Our aim now is to win the Conti Cup and then we can go from there. FA Cup, WSL, we want it all. As long as we keep working hard, the success will hopefully follow.

on fatigue in the squad…

We’ve got a 10-day break now until our next game, so that’s going to be great for us. We’re going to be able to properly train and properly rest this week, which is what we need. It was a short turnaround for this game, but you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do. We’ll have a couple of days off here and there and then we’ll be ready for the next challenge.
