Pre-Match Report

Preview: Brighton vs Arsenal U-23s

We will look to extend our unbeaten run to six matches when we face Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday night.

THE STORY SO FAR

Three consecutive league wins has consolidated our place in the title race, with Steve Bould’s side rising up to second in the PL2 table.

We started the season strongly and were unbeaten in seven matches, which included impressive wins against Blackburn Rovers, Brighton and Leicester City.

We claimed beat Tottenham in early November. Robbie Burton and Trae Coyle gave us a commanding lead at the break, and despite our rivals pulling a goal back, Nathan Tormey settled any nerves by scoring our third in injury time.

Tyreece John-Jules scored the only goal of the game as we narrowly beat a stubborn Southampton side at Meadow Park, before securing a 3-1 victory against Blackburn a week later.

Coyle scored his second league goal of the season when he cushioned an effort into the net, before Zech Medley acrobatically volleyed home soon after.

John-Jules then put the game to bed before half-time when he powered our third into the top corner from long-range.

THE OPPOSITION

Brighton have made an inconsistent start to the season so far, with five wins, one draw and six losses in their opening 12 games.

They proved difficult opponents for Steve Bould’s side in the reverse fixture as we narrowly edged past them thanks to goals from Tormey and Emile Smith Rowe.

Their most recent win came in an impressive 4-1 victory away to Southampton, with Alex Cochrane and Danny Cashman on the scoresheet before Taylor Richards scored an injury time brace.

Bojan Radulovic has proved to be a threat for the Seagulls and is their top scorer with four goals.

Brighton currently sit sixth in the table.

ONE TO WATCH

Nathan Tormey is enjoying his best goalscoring season so far for our under-23s.

In all competitions, the forward has netted five goals, including a well-taken finish against Liverpool at Meadow Park.

With quick feet and an eye for goal, the 19-year-old offers options to our forward line with his versatility to play across a front three.

After impressing with his performances at left wing, Tormey’s name is usually one of the first on Steve Bould’s teamsheet.
