FA Youth Cup

‘The players could write their names in history’

Kwame Ampadu with Xavier Amaechi

Our under-18s could achieve something truly special over the next few days.

Into their first FA Youth Cup final for nine years, our youngsters now have the chance to lift the trophy for the first time since 2009.

That squad contained the likes of Jack Wilshere, Francis Coquelin and Henri Lansbury, and Kwame Ampadu believes that winning the competition this time around will be the perfect platform to launch our current crop’s careers.

“It would be great for the players to win because they could write their names down in history,” the head coach told Arsenal.com.

“It would be great for their careers because it’s a benchmark for them and something that they can look back on and try to kick on from. I think it would be really special for them if they could do that.

“It’s going to give them a lot of confidence to do well in this type of competition and of course we want to do well, but the ultimate goal is for these boys to kick on even further and play in our first team. That’s the ultimate goal.”
