We visited St Luke’s primary school in Islington on Wednesday, to celebrate the opening of their new football pitch.
Our Arsenal in the Community team delivered a football session, before a ribbon was cut to officially open the pitch with head teacher Ann Dwulit and children from the school. Gunnersaurus also made a guest appearance.
The new pitch at St Luke's is the latest in a series of local pitches to be refurbished following our Legends match against AC Milan at Emirates Stadium last September - which helped to raise £1million for The Arsenal Foundation.
New playing surfaces have already been opened at Hargrave Park, Ambler, Pakeman and St John’s Highbury Vale primary schools, with support from The Arsenal Foundation.
Arsenal in the Community coach Jack McNicholl said: "We’ve worked with St Luke's for a good few years, delivering football and education sessions through our Arsenal Double Club programme.
"The children are absolutely fantastic and lots of them are football mad – so it’s great we’ve been able to help them build a new astro-turf pitch.
"I hope we’ll be using it for our coaching sessions at the school for years to come!”
