Pedro - This is the best team that I’ve had

Pedro Martinez Losa has seen plenty of players come and go since joining the club in 2014.

Josephine Henning, Jessica Samuelsson, Vivianne Miedema and Lisa Evans are the latest to arrive in north London ahead of the new Women’s Super League season, and Losa says our class of 2017 is the best he has coached since he has been here.

“From the human quality and football quality, this is the best team that we’ve had,” Losa told Arsenal Player.

“We have a couple of diamonds coming through the youth system again, and we’re really excited about that. We also have competitive players like Vivianne, who is one of the top young players in Europe, and we’re expecting her to perform very well.

“We needed to sign players to make the team more competitive, more solid. From an offensive point of view, we thought that we could add some top quality with Vivianne. In Jessica and Josephine’s case, they are both international players who play for their national teams. They’re used to playing in leagues to win.

“Jessica won the Swedish league and started for the Sweden national team, and Josephine Henning is just a winner who has won a gold medal, the Champions League, the German league, and we love her as a person and player. These are great additions from a football point of view and also in terms of characters and competitiveness.

“We also have young players like Beth Mead, Danielle Carter, Jordan Nobbs, and then Jodie Taylor who performed really well at the Euros. I think we have a very good, very balanced team in terms of age, level, competitiveness and experience. We are looking forward to the new season with positivity and hope that we can be at the top of the table.”
