Osei-Tutu - I’m learning so much from these games

As one of the first names on the teamsheet, Jordi Osei-Tutu has thoroughly impressed this season for our under-23s.

Speaking after our 5-2 win in the Premier League International Cup against Bayern Munich, the young defender revealed what he’s learned from games against some of Europe’s best:

on the performance…

I think in the first half we did really well, we went 2-0 up and then in the second half we slipped and let them come back into the game, but showed good character to make it 5-2 and win.

on what the difference was between the first half and second-half performances…

I think we had a good mentality to start the game hard because we knew that they would be pressing us and then in the second half I think we just came out slow mentally and let them get back into the game. They were sharper, winning all the 50/50s, we let in two goals but then lifted our heads and got it back to 5-2.

on whether he is working on scoring in training…

It’s something I’m working on and I’m just thankful that it’s paying off in the matches.

on what it’s like to play teams from Europe…

I think it’s a good experience because they play a different way to English football and as you saw a lot of rotation in the game. It was hard to deal with and cope with it.

on whether European sides are harder to play against…

I think yes, on the ball because when you press them they take risks and sometimes the English sides will boot it long, but they want to play out from the back, which is quite hard to deal with.

on Konstantinos Mavropanos…

I think he’s fantastic, he’s solid at the back and very good on the ball. He’s trustworthy.
