Nwaneri helps England top group at U17s Euros

Ethan Nwaneri playing for England U17s against Switzerland

Ethan Nwaneri came off the bench for England in a 0-0 draw against Switzerland at the U17 European Championships in Hungary.

With the Three Lions' spot in the knockout stages already confirmed, both Ethan and Myles Lewis-Skelly started the final Group F game against the Swiss on the bench. Myles was an unused substitute but Ethan tasted action after a 74th-minute introduction.

Switzerland saw a penalty saved when Winsley Boteli's effort from 12 yards was blocked by goalkeeper Ted Curd, and after his introduction Nwaneri nearly set up a late winner but Tyler Dibling fired over the bar after being teed up by our academy product.

Opening wins against Croatia and the Netherlands earned ex-Gunner Ryan Garry's team a quarter-final against France, which will be contested on Saturday, and both of our midfielders were on target during the group stage to help England book their quarter-final place with a match to spare.

Ethan played 61 minutes and scored the only goal of the game eight minutes into the opener against Croatia, while Myles played the full 90 minutes against Croatia but needed only seven to make his mark in the second match against the Netherlands in a 4-1 victory.

After beating three Dutch players in a magnificent solo run, he combined with Leon Chiwome before slotting the ball home.
