Our commitment to help young people keep safe from knife crime and youth violence

BUILDING ON 40 YEARS OF ARSENAL IN THE COMMUNITY

No More Red was launched in January 2022 to support and build on 40 years of Arsenal in the Community’s work to help keep young people safe from knife crime and youth violence.

adidas, Arsenal and their community partners continue to evolve and expand No More Red, providing opportunities for connection and safe spaces to play, alongside championing community role models.

To mark the fourth year of the initiative, adidas and Arsenal have brought together Zakaria Hassan, George Hobden, and Amy Scanlon, who have all been recognised for the positive difference they are making in their local community, with first-team players Declan Rice, Myles Lewis-Skelly, and Alessia Russo to discuss the impact of No More Red.

You can watch the films below, which cover the importance of having access to trusted role models and the significance of providing safe spaces for young people to thrive and express their creativity.

ZAk

Youth worker Zak Hassan has devoted most of his life to giving young people in Islington a brighter future. As a former football coach at Harvist Estate, he tells Myles Lewis-Skelly why safe spaces are crucial.

Zak is a passionate community leader and youth worker who has been instrumental in empowering young people in Islington for over 15 years.

His approach has enabled him to connect with young people, particularly those from marginalised communities, and guide them towards positive futures. Originally from the Mayville Estate, Zak developed a strong connection to Harvist Estate in Islington – a stone’s throw from Emirates Stadium – through his work.

Amy

Arsenal supporter Amy Scanlon is the driving force behind girls’ football sessions at the Mayville Estate. She tells Alessia Russo about the importance of role models and safe spaces for young people.

Amy has been the inspiration behind Mayville’s female-only group for the past five years, creating a safe and welcoming space for young girls to come together and thrive. A lifelong Arsenal fan and Islingtonian, Amy is a former participant in Arsenal in the Community programmes. Her deep-rooted love for football and sports has been a constant in her life.

George

North London local George Hobden is a young boxer and an Arsenal student who has seen first-hand the benefits of No More Red through the redevelopment of the football pitch at King Square. He tells Declan Rice about the importance of building connections and taking opportunities through Arsenal in the Community and No More Red.

George is a talented young boxer and full-time student from the King Square area. At just 16 years old, he has made significant strides in both his sporting and academic pursuits. George is a long-time participant in Arsenal in the Community’s Positive Futures programme and is now a full-time student with Arsenal in the Community, studying for his NCFE Level 2 Diploma in Sports Science and Coaching.
