Nketiah scores winner for England Under-19s

Eddie Nketiah

Eddie Nketiah scored a dramatic winner as England Under-19s left it late to beat Iceland 2-1 on Saturday.

After a cagey first half, Mason Mount finally broke the deadlock from a free-kick with just 20 minutes remaining in Bulgaria.

But when Daniel Hafsteinsson beat Ryan Schofield in the 82nd minute, it looked like the game was heading to a draw.

That was until Eddie Nketiah latched onto substitute Jadon Sancho for a close-range finish less than a minute later, with the youngster scoring his fifth goal in just two games during this European Under-19 Championship qualifying campaign.

Reiss Nelson played the full 90 minutes in an advanced position, while Joe Willock was an unused substitute.

With two wins from their first two games of qualifying, England have secured their place in the Elite Round in March, and now head into their last match of the group against Bulgaria battling it out for the top spot.
