Interview

Nketiah - I'm privileged to learn from Auba

Eddie Nketiah has hailed the influence of Pierre-Emerick Auabmeyang and says it is "a privilege" to play alongside the Gabon international.

Our young forward made his first Premier League start in the win against Newcastle United and discussed the match afterwards with the media.

This is what he told them:

on his first Premier League start…

It was a great feeling to get back out there, I’ve been working really hard in the chances I’ve had in training to get this chance so it’s nice. I felt I did well and I came close to scoring when it hit the crossbar, but the important thing is the three points and I think it was a brilliant result for the team.

on getting back to winning ways…

We want to make our home a fortress and we want to continue winning games here. I think the fans were excellent and the boys matched it with their efforts. With the way we played, we played some great stuff at times and like you said we’re looking to build on this and continue picking up points.

on Aubameyang’s influence…

Pierre is a top player and a top person. He leads by example and I think everyone is trying to do their bit to chip in with the goals and obviously when I’m on I’m trying to score and contribute to the team. Pierre is doing excellently at the moment and he’s such a great guy and such a great person to learn off. I’m privileged to play with him and it’s nice to get back out there and play alongside him.

on where Arsenal need to be consistently…

That’s the aim, to continue building and Mikel’s come in and given us that confidence and freedom. We’re all playing well, we know what to do and I think the second half was excellent and we played some great football at times. We just want to do that consistently and build on this performance and win and continue picking up points.

on the trip to Dubai…

I think Dubai was great to get away with the team and bond together and spend some time away from the training ground. We learnt more about his ways and how he wants us to play and everyone’s got a clear understanding of what we need to do. It’s just about performing and putting it out consistently and after a good performance today, hopefully we can build on that.
