Nketiah - How I'm looking to push on this season

Eddie Nketiah got off the mark for the season on Friday, as he scored twice in our under-23s’ 3-2 win over West Ham United at London Stadium.

The England under-21 international spoke to Arsenal Player after the game, and this is what he said:

on the team’s dominant first-half performance…

I think the boys got off to a great start. We played really well with confidence playing out of the back well and we kept the ball well. I think we were all fired up for the game and I think it showed. In the first half we were really sharp, and we started off really well.

on how the side reacted to conceding…

It’s always hard when you’re 2-0 up and team’s come out really strong from half-time and I think maybe they caught us off guard a bit, but the boys reacted really well. We scored not too long after and we started to control the game after that and it was a great result.

on how we coped with their attacking threat…

Obviously it’s disappointing to concede two goals and we always want the clean sheet, but we sat together and dug in and in the end to get the 3-2 result away from home against a good West Ham side, we’re all pleased and happy with it.

on what changed in the final third compared to their last outing…

I think we got good players into the good positions that they like to be in and I think it showed out there. We were all confident and I think we created more chances, so I think we deserved to score more goals today.

on scoring his first goals of the season…

It’s good to get a goal and to get two is even better. I’m just really looking to push on and get as many goals I can and try and get some goals in the first-team as well.

on whether he should have had a hat-trick…

I was a bit unlucky with the one that hit the post and the one that went just across the face of goal. I was pleased with my performance and the team’s performance and it’s nice to get a couple of goals. I just want to carry it on and get some more for the team in the next game.

on recording their first win of the season…

It’s great to get off the mark and get a win finally. I think the boys will really kick on from here and get some great results and really push to try and retain the league.
