Arsenal Ladies winger Rachel Yankey has become England’s all-time record appearance-maker after captaining her country in Wednesday’s 1-1 draw against Japan.
Yankey played her 126th international game at Burton Albion’s Pirelli Stadium to move clear of previous best set by Peter Shilton as England continued their preparations for this summer’s European Championship in Sweden.
The winger, who has represented the Lionesses for 16 years, set up Eni Aluko’s opener just before half-time, though Japan leveled through Nahomi Kawaumi after 76 minutes.
Alex Scott and Ellen White also started, while Jordan Nobbs came off the bench, with Kelly Smith and Steph Houghton unused substitutes.
Hope Powell’s team are next in action in Uddevalla on Thursday, July 4, when they take on Sweden in their final-warm up game ahead of the tournament.
