Wilshere set for 'very minor surgery'

Jack Wilshere

Jack Wilshere will undergo minor surgery in the forthcoming days.

The Arsenal midfielder has made a successful return from a long-term right ankle injury this season but he sat out six games from early March to monitor a left ankle problem.

"The revision of the surgery to the right ankle is not unexpected and will require a few weeks rehab but Wilshere is expected to play a full part in Arsenal’s pre-season"

Arsene Wenger and the Club's medical staff have managed Wilshere's appearances since then - he has played five times without completing 90 minutes. The revision of the surgery to the right ankle is not unexpected and will require a few weeks rehab but Wilshere is expected to play a full part in Arsenal’s pre-season.

However, he will sit out England's forthcoming friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Brazil.

"Jack will have small, mild surgery," explained Wenger. "It is a very small, small, small one. It is to remove a small pin. It will not be a problem.

"He will need very minor surgery, but we manage that as far as we can until the end of the season. At the moment, we use him only in games when I feel he is really needed.

"He won't be available for England in the forthcoming friendlies, but he will be back for pre-season. Of course he is disappointed to miss the England game in Brazil, but he will go next year [to the World Cup finals]!"
