Wenger - We must believe against Bayern

Arsene Wenger says his team must believe they can overcome the odds if they are to beat Bayern Munich and progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

Arsenal need to score three times at Allianz Arena in next month’s second leg after being beaten 3-1 by the German side at Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night.

"We have to go there and try to make the impossible possible"

Wenger was encouraged by facets of his side’s performance in the first leg, and wants them to start on the front foot in Munich.

“We won’t give up,” he told Arsenal Player. “We have to go there and try to make the impossible possible. We have regrets because when you put yourself on the back foot, every time you have to battle hard to come back into the game. Sometimes it works but sometimes not.

“The difficulty is that the belief is not completely there. That comes from the fact that in many big games, [conceding early] has happened to us. We’ve been on the back foot early on in the game and you could see once we have that in the team, it’s very difficult to get out.

“We know what tactics [to employ] in the second leg. Before that, you want positive results. You need to go there with strength in our belief.

“The results in upcoming games are very important for us as well because of course we want to come back in the Premier League. We’re on quite a strong run in the Premier League and it’s important we continue that.”
