Wenger: Monreal has adapted from day one

Arsene Wenger is delighted with Nacho Monreal's first weeks as an Arsenal player.

The Spain left back has made a seamless transition since joining the Gunners from Malaga on transfer deadline day in January and opened his account for the Club in his sixth appearance - the 2-0 victory at Swansea City.

Monreal's stock rose even further during the international break when he set up the winning goal for Spain in a vital World Cup qualifier in France, and Wenger could not be happier with his new signing.

"I am very pleased," he told Arsenal Player. "He did it basically from one day to the next - he played.

"He has a similar attitude to Cazorla, he loves the game and to practise, he has great focus, and he showed again against France with Spain what a good player he is. It is fantastic for us."

Monreal was the only member of Spain's starting line-up on Tuesday night that does not represent Real Madrid or Barcelona.

"That is fantastic credit as well," noted Wenger. "It shows it’s a surprise so many people didn’t know him.

"He had a big impact in this game because he was less known than anybody else, and he was decisive. That’s why he surprised so many people."
