Szczesny - Clean sheets my obsession

Wojciech Szczesny says his urge to keep clean sheets is an "obsession".

The Polish goalkeeper has conceded just one goal in his last three games and made a string of fine saves in Tuesday night's 2-0 victory over Fenerbahce at Emirates Stadium.

That win ensured Arsenal's place in the Champions League proper for the 16th consecutive season and Szczesny was pleased with the professional manner with which the team secured qualification.

"It's been a good week for us. It was tough last week against Villa but we've turned it around"

"We knew that we had to do our jobs properly," Szczesny told Arsenal Player. "We got a very good away result and it was just a matter of keeping our focus for 90 minutes and we did that so we're very happy.

"If you want to compete in such a big competition like the Champions League, if we face Fenerbahce, you'd expect us to go through and we did the job properly. That was enough to secure the Champions League spot.

"It's been a good week for us. It was tough last week against Villa but we've turned it around. We're very confident. We proved a point a little bit to people and hopefully we can keep it going."

Arsenal have reacted well to conceding three goals on the opening day of the season. Szczesny is impressed with the way the defence has been performing and is hoping for a similar display in Sunday's north London derby.

"I'm very happy," he said. "It makes my job much easier when the defenders play like that. Hopefully we can get a few more clean sheets in the Premier League because we've not kept one yet. It's a little bit of an obsession for me so hopefully we can improve on that.

"I don't like to concede. The one against Fulham does my head in.

"I'm doing alright. We managed to keep a clean sheet twice out of the last three games. Hopefully we can still improve but I'm kind of satisfied.

"We just want to give the fans something to cheer about and make sure we get three points [on Sunday].

"We know how important this game is. Not only for the three points but for the mood around the Club. We'll make sure we do the job properly like we did today and in the last couple of games. Hopefully that will give us the result."
