No excuses
It’s difficult to find excuses for Saturday’s defeat to Blackburn.
There will be questions asked why there were so many changes to our team but the side that lined up was strong and littered
with internationals, all good enough collectively to get the win to put us
through.
So why did it not happen on the day?
Turning our total domination of the first half into a lead would have
meant a different game altogether of course, even if that seems like I am
stating the obvious.
Rovers defended deeply and in great numbers but that was certainly not
unexpected. But as we huffed, puffed and probed, time started to ebb away.
Their goal on the break was totally out of the blue given the fact they
had hardly been in our half, but with not much time left and a replay on the cards, the worst case scenario suddenly presented itself.
We came close but it wasn't to be and we are out. Although our domination is emphasised by the stats - we had 26 attempts on goal and 16 corners - that really doesn't make me feel any better right now.
Bayern Munich offer an enormous challenge in midweek so roll on Tuesday!
