Arsène Wenger knows Claude Puel better than most - after all, he was his manager at Monaco for seven years.
Puel’s first season in England has seen his Southampton side reach the EFL Cup final, and they’re on track for a fourth-successive top-half finish.
Wenger was asked about his compatriot at Tuesday’s pre-match press conference - here’s what he said:
on Claude Puel…I believe he has done well because they have taken initiative in every single game. They have been doing well against the big teams in the league and overall they got to the League Cup final. Southampton had a very convincing performance on the day. Overall he has done well.
on the issue of time-wasting being brought up in Liverpool v Southampton…The main thing is goalkeepers who waste time. I watched the game, it didn’t come up to me that they especially wasted time - Southampton - in that game. Overall, the biggest impact referees can have is on the goalkeepers and maybe punish them with a yellow card.
The manager was also asked about player contracts, and gave these answers:
on the latest on player contracts…At the moment we are focused on our next game.
on if that will be sorted at end of the season…Yes.
More polls to come later in the season!
